Private Labels and the Supplement Products Industry
July 25, 2016
Over the past few years we have seen the economy go through some pretty rough times. But, recent studies have shown that there has been a significant increase in the number of new supplements that have entered the market. In fact, studies show that 94% of consumers will continue to purchase private label supplements. Consumers are looking for quality products as much as pricing and private labels have really stepped up to deliver both.
Future Trends for Supplements
Consumers are more aware today of how their supplements are made and where the ingredients come from. They have become aware of all the issue surrounding the FDA inspections and they are very inquisitive. They want to know more about the formulas and why the supplement company has decided to choose each ingredient and the why they chose that particular strength.
Where is the Future of Supplement Packaging Going?
Packaging and labeling is an extremely important part of grabbing the attention of the end consumer. First, it’s all about the label. How do you differentiate yourself from the hundreds of other supplements selling on the shelves? What does your label say about your product and your company?
Second, consumers these days are very conscientious about our environment? An added edge that supplement suppliers can gain in today’s market is by using recyclable containers. There are multiple plastic containers that are recyclable or another unique feature is to pack tablet and capsule products in recyclable glass bottles. We feel this is a good way to store your products, and the consumer can see the size of the tablet or capsule before they get it home.
Private Labels and Today's Stores
Private labels are unique and guarantee that consumers will come back to the store to purchase the product. Name brand products can easily be purchased at multiple locations and online. As the owner of a private supplement brand, you set the pricing, the margins, the marketing and merchandising. Your brand is created by you to reflect just who you are.
Safety Concern in a Private Supplement Label
Studies show that most consumers now see private label as the same quality as national brands. They have to adhere to the same safety standards set forth from the FDA as all the name brand supplements. In fact, private label supplement companies often divulge additional information to the consumer to set themselves apart to inform the consumer exactly “why they should buy their product.” Next, if you market and merchandise your product as a quality product, then it will be received by the consumer as a quality product.
